G-d give us many things. Yet, we do not notice many of them. We have gotten used to them, take them for granted, and do not accord them much importance.

Therefore, we have 15 “small” blessings that we say every morning, for the small and big things that G-d gives us: from our sight and our mobility, to our clothes and our shoes. These blessings show us how to say “Thank you” so that during the rest of the day, we notice G-d’s hand guiding and helping us and thank Him.

Shabbat Shalom,

Did you know?

Every night, while we sleep, a part of our soul “ascends” to G-d, in order to get strength. It can be compared to charging our phone so we can continue to use it.

In the morning G-d gives us back our soul, “recharged” and full of energy. This is why we recite a special blessing, Elo-ai Neshama, to thank G-d for returning our soul to us.

Saying this blessing reminds us everyday that G-d returns our soul to us for a specific purpose, to do Mitzvot.

Shabbat Shalom,

Arie from the Yeshiva

Elo-ai neshama shenata bi tehora hi, ata berata, ata yetsarta, ata nefachta bi, veata meshamra bekribi, veata atid litela mimeni ulehachazira bi leatid lavo. Kol zman shehaneshama bekirbi, mode ani lefanecha Ado-nai Elo-ai veElo-e avotai, ribon kol hamaasim, adon kol haneshamot, baruch ata Adoai amachazir neshamot lifegarim metim.

My G-d, the soul you placed within me is pure. You created it, You fashioned it, You breathed it into me, You safeguard it within me and eventually You will take it from me and restore it to me in time to come. As long as the soul is within me, I gratefully thank you Hashem, my G-d and the G-d of my forefathers, Master of all words, Lord of all souls. Blessed are you Hashem, who restores souls to dead bodies.

What would you answer to the question: “When did we receive the Torah?”.

The people of Israel heard the 10 Commandments on Mount Sinai 3331 years ago.

But G-d gives us the Torah every day, for us to study and apply it to our lives. This is why, every day in our morning prayers, we recite the Blessings on the Torah. Before starting its study, we praise G-d Who gave it to us. Immediately after, we continue by studying a short excerpt form the Bible and from the Mishna.

In this way, we start our day, connecting our minds to G-d and the Torah.
